RRL recognized early on in their development that they as a company
were utilizing coiled tubing in a unique way when compared to the
rest of the industry. Therefore the current coiled tubing fatigue
models currently in use were not representative of the stresses
the coil would undergo during operations where rotation was utilized.
RRL embarked on a research project in conjunction with Professor Steve Tipton of the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. His research results have been integrated into our unique proprietary computer software which has been developed in conjunction with MEDCO (www.medcotas.com) to provide real time fatigue monitoring of coil whilst stationary and during rotation. Professor Tipton (s.tipton@reel-revolution.com) exhibited his findings at the 2006 SPE / ICOTA Coiled Tubing Conference (The Woodlands, TX, U.S.A. 4- 5th April 2006).
